My First Week as an Entrepreneur

Hey Everyone,

I've always wanted to start a business and create an online presence. Every time I started it left me overwhelmed and unsure about how I should do it. Consider this my first week as an entrepreneur and leaving no excuses about starting. I hope one day I can develop this blog into a more cohesive unit that helps to give insight in starting and running a small business someone can brag about. Before I get too ahead of myself, I will start with baby steps. My first step is chronicling my own adventures and experiences of creating something wholly my own and unique. Future posts will most likely be geared towards more specific topics of things I have learned or things I need to learn. This post will serve as some knowledge I have already acquired and what I am eager to learn more about.

My first lesson learned for this week was how much I wanted to strike out on my own. It's just human nature to some extent. I often have grand ideas of starting up my own local donut shop or running a youth sports camp. The main problem was the ideas were never based in reality. My thought process was always, "oh that would be cool" and never "how do I start this?". While those ideas may sit on the back burner for a few more years, A Business to Brag About, or ABTBA as I will refer to it, is something I am going to build now, in small steps. First these posts and then on to hopefully regular interviews with local entrepreneurs and posts about cool new local businesses.

One thing I want to learn more about is utilizing my network. I've always known it is there connecting me to other people. The issue is that I don't know how to capitalize on it. I've had some crash courses in the uses and functions of social media to expand a business, but I've never really thought about utilizing allies or acquaintances to begin or even grow my business. I will post an update of this lesson when I feel like I have learned how to move forward using my connections.

That's really all I have for this week, but be sure to check back in for my second week. There will be lots more to talk about and obviously lots more to learn.

Thanks,

Mike
